this is what I’ve eaten

Forno

How could I possibly eat again. I do not know. But when this haddock was placed before me I gobbled it down because the surrounding saffron sauce was so good. I need not eat for another six or seven weeks.

BBQSA

The gimmick is that they offer BBQ from every US region, with BBQ salmon representing the Pacific Northwest, which is just lame. We got the 5-region sampler, which included meat from Kansas City, Memphis, Texas, North Carolina, and some other meaty place that I can’t remember. The pork and chicken were a little bland, but the ribs were flavorful. The real stars were the side dishes. Collards were slightly tangy, okra was nicely spiced and not too greasy, and the sweet potatoes tasted like pie filling, which was just right for me.

Applebee’s

All of the restaurants in SaratogA Springs were filled with grads and their poor, poor parents. Except for the Applebee’s a little ways out of town. At 9 am we were the only people there, except for our very friendly waitress who brought is some surprisingly good breakfast slop. The bacon had a barbecue sauce tinge to it, which was just ok with me. The toast was soft and light and the eggs were just so. Who would have thunk?

Jane

The bartender let me sample some wine and I gagged a little, so she kindly poured me a different one, which was better. Jane is cute! And friendly! And they made me an excellent flounder.

The greenish bits were, in fact, mashed peas and they tasted much better than they looked.

El Cholo

Three fish tacos sitting in a messy row were just the right thing after a long meat binge. The black beans came in a little edible fried tortilla. All washed down with very powerful margaritas.

Phillipe’s

The cinco de mayo celebration was still going on and we witnessed something we had never seen: there was NO LINE at Phillipe’s. The lady was waiting to take our order. The roast beef double dip was as fine as ever. As was the lemon meringue pie.

Mmm. Cake.

Mmm. Cake.

But look at how pretty the cake was! Before we devoured it. Since we were in a fancy place, we used silverware instead of our hands.

Mango sorbet came in the shape of a witches hat, but in orange.

We could have stopped there but nooooo. It got even better. Asparagus and green beans, Thai noodles with chicken, and cilantro shrimp were brought to us in quick succession, followed by chicken made for or possibly by princesses. And then shaking beef. I do not know why it shook, but it was a tasty morsel. And the put an egg on my fried rice.
